A collection of animal species from around the world.

Pheasant-tailed Jacana
Pheasant-tailed jacana females are larger than the males. The species is also polyandrous — each female mates with multiple males and, in a single season, lays up to 10 clutches that are raised by different males in her harem.
Blacksmith Lapwing
The call of a blacksmith lapwing is a noisy and metallic ‘tink tink tink’ — like a blacksmith hammering on an anvil. It's an exceedingly bold bird when defending its chicks, known to attack raptors and go after elephants using the sharp spurs on its carpal (wrist) joints.
Snowy Sheathbill
The snowy sheathbill is an Antarctic scavenger. It eats anything it can find or pilfer; from faeces to regurgitated penguin chick food and even elephant seal milk straight from the teat. It often stands on one foot to reduce heat loss — a technique that also makes it quite clumsy.
